Chapter 27: Lead Her Into the Trap with Zhong Er
“I really can’t understand what Imperial Older Brother is thinking! If he really likes Yao Mowan, why did he let Ye Junqing live with her? Now this is just great! No matter what this prince says, Imperial Older Brother refuses to believe that there’s something going on between the two of them! That damned Ye Junqing! There will come a day when this prince personally slaughters him!” Ye Liyu had never seen Ye Hongyi be that terrifying before and was a little frightned.
“It’s all Suluan’s fault. Prince wouldn’t have burst into Guan Osprey Palace if you hadn’t been trying to get justice for Suluan, then you wouldn’t have injured Yao Mowan’s maid. It was Suluan that implicated everyone in Transcendental Prince’s res…” Yao Suluan’s voice contained a strong sobbing tone. She lifted her hand towards her eye as a tear slid down.
“How could it be blamed on you? If it weren’t for you, this prince wouldn’t have found out how much that damned woman was making a fool out of Imperial Older Brother! And Ye Junqing! This prince has always found him an eyesore! If it weren’t for… In any case, this prince won’t let them off!” Ye Liyu was very well aware that his martial arts were very much inferior to Ye Junqing’s. However, how could he possibly let the woman he love know something so humilating about him?
“If we could catch them in the act, His Majesty will have to believe,” said Yao Suluan darkly.
“But Imperial Older Brother won’t even let this prince step into Guan Osprey Palace. How are we supposed to catch them in the act?” Ye Liyu slapped the table in frustration.
“Even if Prince could enter Guan Osprey Palace, it’d be useless. There’s no way Yao Mowan would let us find information to use against her.” Yao Suluan lowered her eyes delicately as she wiped at her tears. Hidden behind her sleeve, her eyes flashed with cold light.
“Once started, it must be carried out until the end. Since we won’t be able to find evidence, let’s just make some!” What happened to his residence made him lose what little patience he had. Right now, he just wanted to get rid of Ye Junqing to vent his anger.
“If Prince really wants to do that, Suluan will definitely do all she can to help! Although Suluan doesn’t want to contend for anything, Suluan really can’t bear to see Prince suffer such grievances!” Yao Suluan’s eyes lit up as she said this resolutely.
“Suluan, don’t worry. Once we get rid of that pair of scumbags, this prince will beg His Majesty to bestow you to be my consort! This prince swears not to let you down in this lifetime!” Ye Liyu grabbed Yao Suluan’s hand passionately. Yao Suluan instinctly wanted to pull her hand away, but she quickly forced down that impulse. That was right, let’s get rid of Yao Mowan first before anything else. Promising things now would only make things require twice the effort for half the result.
Ten days after coming back from Prime Minister Yao’s residence, Yao Mowan heard the news that Li Jian had been beheaded.
“Madame and Master had argued for several days over this incident. Finally, Master lost his patience and placed Madame under house arrest in Virtue Pavilion. It’s already been three days now.” Liu Xing reported the information that he had gathered.
“How surprising. Li Qingqing has already been with Father this long, but she still hasn’t realized how much Father values his career? It hadn’t been easy for him to become a first rank official, how could he possibly allow Li Jian to ruin his future prospects? If this consort’s guess isn’t wrong, it was Father that personally tied Li Jian up and sent him to the authorities, right?” Yao Mowan had predicted this result. It was just a pity that Yao Boan was born in a bad time. If he had been born a little later, Father would’ve suppressed this matter for Yao Boan’s sake or at least guaranteed that Li Jian would live until the child was born.
“Exactly. After Master found out that Huan Heng had visited Official Ji in the Ministry of Justice, he tied Li Jian up and sent him right over. If it weren’t for this, Madame wouldn’t have attempted suicide.” Liu Xing had been a servant in Prime Minister Yao’s residence for many years and understood Yao Zhenting’s temper well. It wasn’t surprising to see him do this.
“If it weren’t for the fact that Father felt that Li Qingqing had made a great contribution by giving birth to a son for him, he definitely would’ve divorced her already. Alright, you can withdraw. Send people to keep an eye on Li Qingqing. If this consort’s guess isn’t wrong, she’ll probably be pushing forward her plan.” Yao Mowan stroked Fluffy as she indicated for Liu Xing to withdraw.
Just as Liu Xing got to the doors, Yao Suluan appeared.
“Your Highness?” Liu Xing reflexively moved to block Yao Suluan’s way as he turned to look towards Yao Mowan.
“Liu Xing, who do you think you are, to dare to block this consort’s way!?” When Yao Suluan saw Liu Xing behave in such a disrespectful manner, she lifted her hand to slap him, but Yao Mowan’s words stopped her.
“If Second Older Sister dares to deal this slap, Mowan will remove Second Older Sister’s arm.” The languid and soft voice contained an imposing threat. Yao Suluan forced her movement to a stop and lowered her arm.
“Liu Xing, withdraw.” Yao Mowan glanced towards Liu Xing, then placed Fluffy to the side before slowly walking towards Yao Suluan. “Second Older Sister sure missed Mowan a lot. We saw each other just yesterday, so why are you visiting again today?”
“The weather’s good, so I wanted to invite you to take a walk around Jade Lake.” Yao Suluan got straight to the point.
“Although the weather’s nice, the person extending the invitation is a bit disgusting. If Second Older Sister doesn’t have anything else to say, please leave. Mowan isn’t in the mood to play games with you today,” said Yao Mowan lightly as she turned to walk inside.
“Don’t you want to know where your only nephew, Yao Moxin’s only child, is buried?” Yao Suluan’s words seemed to explode like thunder in Yao Mowan’s ears.
Her heart convulsed with pain, like countless needles were being stabbed into it and twisted. Yao Mowan could feel her body trembling. Her Zhong er had been smashed to death alive by Ye Hongyi to the point his head was crushed! He had died so pitifully!
“What? You’re not interested?” Yao Suluan became a little anxious when she saw that Yao Mowan wasn’t turning around.
“I’m very interested.” Yao Mowan slowly turned around. Her clear eyes were like a still pond, but if one looked more closely, there was a hurricane in those eyes, like they wanted to devour and destroy everything in sight. However, unfortunately Yao Suluan missed it.
When she saw Yao Mowan turn around, her heart immediately relaxed again and she walked out of Guan Osprey Palace. Yao Mowan followed. She’d make Yao Suluan regret mentioning Zhong er. In this world, the people who didn’t have the right to mention Zhong er the most were Yao Suluan and Ye Hongyi!
Near Jade Lake, Yao Suluan stood in the pavilion with her hands folded. As the wind swept by, the surface of the lake glimmered with ripples.
“That day when you pushed Huan Caier down, that was the start of your revenge, right?” asked Yao Suluan coldly. If she had found out earlier that Yao Mowan was pretending to be dumb, would the outcome have been different?
“Where’s Zhong er buried?” Yao Mowan walked straight to Yao Suluan’s side, her eyes cold.
“Since you know how Yao Moxin died, you probably also know that Zhong er‘s death was not from childbirth either.” Yao Suluan deliberately provoke Yao Mowan as she slipped her fingers into her sleeve.
“Yao Suluan, I’ll make you regret saying this.” Yao Mowan’s heart clenched with pain. It felt like someone had thrown her into a volcano, her heart burned with fury and sadness.
“Regret? This consort’s biggest regret was not having Mother get rid of you back then. If it weren’t for that, this consort wouldn’t have fallen to this point!” Yao Suluan’s face twisted with hatred.
“I’ll ask you one last time, where was Zhong er buried?” Yao Mowan remembered vividly that she was still hugging Zhong er when she died. They couldn’t have been seperated. However, she couldn’t help but question herself. She hoped that Zhong er hadn’t been burned with her and the cold palace, but there was slim chance of that.
“Do you really want to know where he was buried?” Yao Suluan slowly turned around and looked straight at Yao Mowan. Suddenly, her eyes narrowed and as her sleeve lifted, a burst of white powder flew towards Yao Mowan’s eyes.
“You…” Yao Mowan was stunned, then she was hit with a bout of dizziness. Her vision blurred and she fell to the ground. Everything went dark, just like it had when she closed her eyes for the last time in the cold palace. Not so long again, she thought she had reached the end of her life. She had been in despair, drowning in hatred, gasping for life. As of now, she had truly come back to life. Since the Heavens haven’t turned their back on her, how could she turn her back on the Heaven’s good intentions?
