The Rise of Otaku - Chapter 157
Chapter 157 Solving The Riddle
Edited by: Esperanza
Becoming an arbitrator for the first time, Zhou Yu was still a little nervous. Facing at least 15 suspects, it was unavoidable that he would feel headaches. The probability was too low! In Detective Conan, there was at least a 25% chance of finding the right criminal; in the Kindaichi Case Files, there was at least a 12% chance, but when he encountered a case, why were so many suspects, that were still alive?
Alas, the evil witch didn’t do her job very well. At least, she should have helped him get rid of some suspects.
It seemed like he could only check each one of them one by one now.
However, Zhou Yu really had no detective skills. Even after he checked everyone, including their alibis at the time when the old king was poisoned, and the basis of suspicion between the people involved, there was still nothing that could be used to find out the criminal, he could only look at the testimony in his hand in extreme confusion.
Elisa witnessed Nissa performing a bizarre ritual, which Nissa immediately denied and claimed to have witnessed Elisa making furtive contact with a mysterious figure in the palace. After he followed this lead, unexpectedly, the mysterious figure was Elisa’s boyfriend, who was just a poor commoner. This was clearly a ‘the domineering princess fell in love with me’ kind of story plot, how did it end up here?
The boyfriend was soon caught from the economy class. But he was not an extremely talented guy, nor was he an arrogant knight riding a white horse, he was just an honest and ordinary farmer. Their relationship started before the evil witch’s invasion, so it seemed like they could be ruled out.
In terms of other suspects, they were equally suspicious, and because there was no conclusive evidence, it only made Zhou Yu even more confused. In order to see it clearly, Zhou Yu wrote down all the information he had gathered and categorized them. However, even then, he still couldn’t find anything at the end.
Running out all the other choices, Zhou Yu, could only ask others for help, “xiao Wan, can you please take a look at this and see if you could find out the person, who poisoned the old king, from those testimonies.”
Curiously, Lin Wan took the note. It looked like a riddle game. On one side, there were everyone’s testimonies, and on the other side, there were descriptions of everyone involved.
Comparing the intelligence quotient, Lin wan was definitely higher than Zhou Yu. After all, she graduated from a famous university. She was way smarter than the lazy man, Zhou Yu, who graduated from a third-class university. But when facing the confusing note, although she was smart, she still wasn’t sure. There were several people, who were more suspicious than others, but there was no logical proof she could use to prove it.
Zhou Yu sighed, if Lin Wan, who was very smart, couldn’t solve this riddle, then there was no way he could do it. If it was at home, he could make a game out of this note and try it one by one in the game to find out the witch.
Lin Wan was speechless, why did the little boss suddenly design this riddle and show it to her? To test the employee’s ability? She was just an office clerk, not a detective. Who said that to become a secretary, she also needed to learn how to solve a case? But if she really could not solve it, she could just find someone to help her. She did not believe that no one on this plane could solve this riddle!
A pretty girl has a problem, eight hundred white knights will show up. Zhou Yu didn’t know what method Lin Wan had used, this piece of note began to circulate in the business class, like students passing notes to each other in the class, it was quite interesting.
Seeing Lin Wan’s social skills, Zhou Yu suddenly had an idea. He remembered that he had a special ability, which would allow him to see other people’s attributes. As long as he could find someone, who was relatively good at reasoning and criminal investigation, this riddle may be solved.
Thinking of this, Zhou Yu quickly glanced around, looking at the attributes of the people in the business class.
“Name: ??? Otaku Power: 3; Someone who knows a little about cooking.”
“Name: ??? Otaku Power: 5, Someone who is very good in finance.”
“Name: ??? Otaku Power: 1, Someone who is relatively good in literature.”
……
Dammit, none of them had the skill he wanted. Why was no one interested in detective comics or dramas? Unwilling to give up, Zhou Yu went to the first class to check the people over there. The people there were all elites. Although they had relatively similar otaku power to those who were in the business class, their business skills were obviously much higher. Unfortunately, there were still no detective fans here.
Zhou Yu was walking around on the plane like his home. Soon, it attracted the attention of the flight attendants. This man had stayed in the toilet for a long time earlier, and now he was fidgeting as if he was looking for someone. Acting weirdly, did he want to create trouble?
Therefore, when Zhou Yu wanted to try his luck in the economy class, a plain-clothes sky marshal, who had a pair of sharp eyes, appeared in front of Zhou Yu and politely asked him to go with him.
Zhou Yu was just wondering why a sky marshal would suddenly want to talk to him. But when he looked up at the strong man in front of him, he was immediately stupefied.
“Name: ??? Otaku Power: 8, proficient in fighting, criminal investigation.”
‘Holy shit, that’s the man I want!’
Zhou Yu was thrilled. He quickly asked Xiao Wan to bring over the note and asked the person to help him to solve the riddle, ignoring that he was still suspected by the person. The poor little secretary could only explain to the flight attendant with a long face, “this is my boss, he is definitely not some bad guy, he just has a problem that he can’t solve, so he wants to find someone to help him to solve it.”
After the sky marshal questioned them for a while, he was finally relieved and determined that they were not dangerous people. So after the misunderstanding was cleared, he helped Zhou Yu and easily solved the riddle.
It turned out that the evil witch was actually the old king, who had been poisoned. It was he, who instigated everyone to suspect each other through various means, and intended to make the leadership of Sky City collapse. After taking a close look at each testimony, people could see the traces of the old king’s mischief-making.
And the most crucial piece of evidence, was a small detail in the honest farmer’s testimony, though seemingly insignificant, it proved that the old king’s words were contradicting itself.
Not bad for a professional, his eyes were truly sharp.
After Zhou Yu thanked the sky marshal, he quickly returned to his seat with satisfaction and began to repeat everything that he had heard from the sky marshal, pretending that he was a great detective.
While he was doing that, Lin Wan did not know how she should feel anymore. Originally, she thought that it might be a great trip, but she did not expect that the little boss was a troublemaker. However, the journey has just begun. Who knows what the little boss would do later on?
The air marshal’s judgment was correct. After listening to Zhou Yu’s “reasoning”, the old king, who was lying in a big bed, was lifted out, and soon, the motionless old king began to reveal its true identity. Like the cracked paint falling off the wall, the old king’s skin began to peel off slowly, revealing an evil image of the evil witch.
Then a battle between the evil witch versus the justice league broke out just like that.
But eventually, it was a happy ending. The evil witch was defeated, the real king was rescued from the dungeon, and Elisa, the blonde sword girl, lived happily ever after with the honest farmer. Everyone in Sky City cheered loudly, and then a little celebration soon appeared at the disc-shaped market.
On the airplane, not only did they participate in a riddle-solving game, although he needed to ask other people to help, he also watched a fantastic battle in a close range, which was really worth it.
