Chapter 85: Carlos’ Evidence

The surroundings were quiet. A gentle breeze blew past, but it sounded like the roar of the waves in everyone’s ears.
Su Ye smiled and said, “Honorable arbitrator, I am not quite sure of the rules of the arbitration. If I may ask, am I only allowed to answer questions? Or can I refute anyone here?”
Many people shook their heads gently in disapproval. Su Ye was too bold.
Carlos’ lips curled into a smile.
Cromwell still had a smile on his face. He replied, “This is an arbitration, not a trial. Let alone a mage apprentice, even if you are an unarmed commoner, you are allowed to refute anyone, including a Legend.”
Su Ye nodded, then said truthfully, “It’s because you don’t understand the Feynman technique.”
Boos suddenly rang from outside the council house. Many noble students and some commoner students looked at Su Ye with derisive smiles.
To dare say that a Sage Archmage didn’t understand his technique, he was too arrogant.
Some of the people who had been inclined to support Su Ye frowned deeply. His actions simply went overboard. To actually dare to say such things to an arbitrator… This would definitely affect the final verdict.
Cromwell wasn’t angry at all. He said, “Next, please provide evidence from both sides. Carlos, reveal all your evidence. Prove that you were the first to discover this method and the first to get it patented.”
Niedern frowned slightly. This Cromwell was indeed a Sage Archmage. His speaking skills were simply too powerful. He didn’t say that Carlos was right. He only used the term “first.” As long as Carlos was able to prove that he was the first discoverer, it would make everyone believe that Carlos was right while Su Ye was wrong.
Even if in the end Su Ye was able to prove that the method belonged to him, Carlos would still win because he was the first.
It was unless Su Ye could prove that Carlos was lying. However, since Carlos dared to make a move, he must have covered all his bases. With Su Ye’s strength, it was impossible for him to investigate a noble in a short period of time. Even Niedern himself could not do it.
Carlos bowed slightly and said, “Thank you, Master Cromwell.” He slowly opened his magic book.
He held the magic book in front of his chin and flipped to a specific page. Then, he slowly made a circle so that everyone around could see the content written in his magic book.
Finally, he faced the parliament seats and said, “The masters can read the content written on this page clearly. However, since many people can’t see it clearly from afar, let me tell you about it. This page was written by me three years ago, when I was in my second year in the academy. I wrote down some of my analysis for a test question in magic geometry. I can’t change the date of a written page. Every student knows it. What’s so special about the content? This is the evidence that I first used ‘teaching as learning’ technique.”
Carlos held the book in his left hand. With his right index finger, he pointed at a line in the book, saying, “Everyone, please pay attention to my choice of words. I was the one who analyzed this question, but I used the pronoun ‘we’. Why? It was because at that time, I was not merely answering a question. I was also imagining myself giving a lecture to many people, which was ‘teaching as learning.’ Of course, at that time, I didn’t know what ‘teaching as learning’ was. I also rarely used this method back then.”
Carlos shut the magic book. He smiled and continued, “Up until this year, only did I realize how powerful this technique was when I collated my stuff and found this note again. This is my last year in Plato Academy. I want to leave a legacy behind; therefore, I refined this technique. I know many people have more or less applied this method before. Haven’t our respected teachers always used this method? However, I was the first to refine it and confirm that this is a plausible learning method.
I don’t want to go into detail regarding the evidence of the time. Both my teacher, Gregory, and the Congress of Magic can prove that I submitted it three days earlier than Su Ye. Next, I wish to call upon a few witnesses. Everyone of them is willing to take an oath to prove that their words are true. Let’s invite the first witness, Kurz Jr.. We’ve known each other for five years. He’s not a noble. As such, we can prevent people from using the identity of a noble or a commoner to sow discord.”
Carlos glanced at Su Ye.
Su Ye smiled and looked at the fifth-grade mage who slowly entered the council house.
Perhaps some meticulous preparation had been involved in getting these witnesses ready. Even though this mage was dressed in a pure white robe and wore a Black Iron Pigeon badge on his chest, the overly dark color of his feet proved his identity as a commoner.
Kurz Jr. was a little nervous and he did not dare to approach. He stopped right after crossing the threshold. He bowed facing the parliament floor.
Cromwell nodded and said, “Kurz Jr., what proof do you have?”
Kurz Jr. hurriedly said, “Greetings, respected Master Cromwell. I… I’m actually not much of a proof. I’m just telling the truth. Carlos and I had a good relationship when we were in second year. At that time, we were deskmates. Since we hadn’t sat at the same table together after that, we aren’t as close anymore. However, after I learned yesterday that his results had been stolen and he was even slandered, I was very angry. I also talked to him, but he didn’t say much. He only asked me to tell the truth.”
“So, what’s the truth?” Cromwell asked kindly.
Kurz Jr. took a deep breath. He replied, “Honorable arbitrator, I’ve no idea what ‘teaching as learning’ was up until yesterday. But when we were in second year, Carlos did teach me about it on purpose. I had a deep impression of it. It was because my grades were average. On the other hand, not only was his grades good, but he is also a noble, so he had no reason to help me. My deduction is that he must have inadvertently found out that this method is effective, so he tested it out on someone.”
Then, Kurz Jr. said half-jokingly, “Of course, now I’m a little suspicious that he’s using me.”
Many people laughed.
Finally, Kurz Jr. said in a serious manner, “I don’t dare to say that Carlos had mastered the ‘teaching as learning’ method back then, but I can be sure that at least three years ago, Carlos had already vaguely conceived this method.”
“Very good. Carlos, do you still have any witnesses?” Cromwell looked at Carlos.
Carlos responded, “I still have three witnesses. All of them are my classmates.”
Then, Carlos’ classmates entered the council house to testify one by one.
They testified that Carlos was indeed more serious in his studies this month than before. Many of the students in their class were also summing up their experiences from previous years. Moreover, at the beginning of the school year, Carlos had already mentioned some rather strange methods, such as “teaching as learning”, “Map Memorization technique”, and so on.
The students in Su Ye’s class looked at Su Ye in disbelief. They had also heard some of the terms spoken by those few witnesses from Su Ye or Hort.
The classmates were even more confused. They were completely unable to determine whether or not Su Ye had stolen Carlos’ method.
Palos gently bit her lower lip, revealing a row of sparkling white teeth. She clenched her two fists tightly.
She clearly remembered that Su Ye had used these methods since the second day of school. It was obvious that he had used them earlier than Carlos. She had also deliberately recorded them in her magic book.
Listening to the testimonies of these people, Su Ye thought that his guess was indeed correct. Carlos must have collected a lot of information from him, and then submitted an application to the Congress of Magic a few days ago to register these things as a new theory or a new learning method.
